Women, Sex and Addiction: A Search for Love and Power
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (June, 1989)
Author: Charlotte Davis Kasl
Average review score:

Wonderful book on sexual addiction and codependency!
I really enjoyed this look at sexual addiction and codependency in women, and how the two are intertwined. Indeed, I enjoyed the entire holistic approach to these twin problems. Much of what Dr. Kasl said really hit home, and I found I gained a lot of insight into my own problems. I also liked that this book treated sexuality as a friend, and something to be treasured. It's too easy for people in recovery from sexual addiction and codependency to ignore their sexual side altogether, and that is a dangerous place to be. This book should be required reading in sexual addiction 12-step groups, for both men and women.

Enlightening!
I have just begun a 12 step program for sex addiction. This book has been a life saver. I think every woman should read it! The author is gentle yet firm, she is wonderful. Stop reading the reviews and buy it!!

The best book on the subject
As a therapist, I have found this to be the best book addressing the issues of female sex addicts and female codependency. It is affirming, thorough, and healing. Furthermore, it adds the spiritual dimension to the healing process and veers away from "clinical" findings. I recommend it to all of my clients who suffer from problems with sexual addiction and codependency.

Big Sister and Little Sister
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Charlotte Zolotow and Martha Alexander
Average review score:

THE BEST BOOK EVER!
My mother read this book to me many, many times in preparation for my little sister's birth. I still think of it every time my sister (now 25 years old) gets on my nerves. It really taught me that, even though she could be annoying, that we both truly loved each other and could depend on each other no matter what...If you have a daughter and are expecting another one soon, you have to get this book!

a story for all sisters
I remember checking this book out of the library when I was 6, and thinking that this story must have been written for me and my little sister. We even looked like the girls in the book! I rediscovered this book recently, and found that the story rings true with me today, just as much as it did in 1977. I think anyone who has a sister could relate to this beautiful story.

Feed the literary impulse
This is perhaps one of the greatest picture books ever written, and is much, much more than a tool for assuaging sibling rivalry in two girl families. With a perfect ear for read-aloud prose, and a finely balanced sense of the perspective of a child, Zolotow invites the youngest listeners to savor the pleasures of literature.

We are introduced to big sister at the outset, who always takes care of little sister. But the heart of the story lies in little sister's small act of rebellion on a day when she grows tired of big sister always telling her what to do. Although the story is nominally about a little sister learning from her older sister such that "the two of them can take care of each other", it is the heart of the story that moves this tale out of the usual wretched and formulaic child's self-help lesson and into the realm of true literature. For not only does little sister run away from big sister, but when big sister comes calling for her in the meadow, little sister doesn't respond at all. Not only that, but we get a full two pages of little sister's quiet, existential reflections on the nature of being alone and in pondering what she has just done. This is the true heart of the story. How can a reader/listener not respond to the willfulness of little sister's unkindness, and yet fully understand the joys of being alone and feeling the grass under your knees while bumblebees buzz overhead? It is in identifying with these conflicting and ambiguous feelings that the young reader feels, perhaps for the first time, a frisson of bittersweet pleasure that will hook them on the joys of reading good books for life.

Of course little sister finally relents after she sees big sister break down and cry, but thankfully Zolotow doesn't give an adult resolution to the story. The answer to big sister's reproach, "Why did you run away?" is immaterial, and lemonade is the order of the day.

Charlotte: Heart of Hope (Hearts and Dreams , No 2)
Published in Paperback by Flare (November, 1997)
Author: Cameron Dokey
Average review score:

A wonderful continuation of the Hearts and Dreams saga.
Teenage Charlotte Campbell was happy enough living on the Indiana frontier, in spite of her family's simple, meager lifestyle. But it's 1814, and war is raging. Fearing for their daughter's safety, Charlotte's parents send her east to stay with her aunt and uncle in Baltimore. But Charlotte isn't safe there, either. Not only are British ships threatening the city, but her uncle's mysterious midnight meetings begin to lead Charlotte to believe there may be a traitor in her own family. This book had pretty much everything in it: mystery, suspense, action, and of course, romance (Charlotte falls in love with Matthew, the grandson of Katherine, the main character in book one). I highly reccomend this series if you are able to find it, and you enjoy historical romances.

Great Book! I really recommend it!

In Colt Blood

Author: Jody Jaffe
Average review score:

My favorite book...
Jody Jaffe's latest hunter/jumper mystery is one of the best books I've read. It's description of the hunter/jumper A circuit is dead on, the end is suprising and satisfying and it had me chuckling throughout. As a teen competing on the A circuit I can identify with Ashlee's life and struggles. A fabulous book.

A fantastic book !
Jody has again produced a delightful tale. Her characters are interesting and three dimensional. The story she tells keeps me turning pages and staying up too late at night because I can't put the book down. Great job Jody! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, especially if they have any connections to, or a love for horses.

She returns home after ten years, her appearance altered and a crazy surgeon on her heels. Ginger
Published in School & Library Binding by Scott Foresman (Pearson K-12) (March, 1997)
Author: Charlotte Voake
Average review score:

Just like at home.
I bought this for my little girl after she bought a little black kitten that terrorized our older yellow cat. It's a great book about getting along with others.

Fun to read and listen to
This was bought as a gift for my son, and now it's one of our favorite books (well, he's only 8 months, but my husband and I love it). The illustrations are charming -- not always very realistic, but very expressive. ...

"Ginger" is a keeper
I was captivated by the illustrations as well as the narration of the simple but engaging story. Charlotte Voake has cat expressions and behaviours down pat! Ginger's look of appalled aggrievement when the kitten clambers, in such perfect kitten style, into his basket, captures feline character perfectly. And the illustration for "The kitten waited for a bit, then he got into Ginger's basket. It wasn't the same without Ginger." is priceless. I bought this book for my godchild but haven't been able to relinquish it! Well, she can have it soon - as long as she keeps it at my house.

Silence in Hanover Close
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (August, 1988)
Author: Anne Perry
Average review score:

Perry at her best
Anne Perry has done an excellent job with letting us view more of the human side of Thomas Pitt. While investigating the 3 year old murder of a member of the London consulate, Pitt continues to examine his own emotions regarding society, prostitution and his own family life. Additionally, Pitt begins to express anger at the well defined hierarchy of the London police. Charlotte takes a bit of a back seat in this novel as her sister Emily is moved to the forefront of the mystery. Although a bit contrived, based on her character in other Pitt novels, Emily enters the house in question as a lady's maid. Emily too begins look internally and examine her own mindset and treatment of domestic help. The ending of this thriller is a sad as it is shocking when the veil of deceit is finally lifted. I highly recommend this Perry novel as one of her best in terms of character development and page turning excitement.

This Is The Pitts
I have read most of the books in this series, so it's plain that I generally enjoy them. Thomas and Charlotte Pitt, along with the others who regularly appear in these stories, are well-developed and plausible characters. By this time, they have become much like old friends and this familiarity adds to their appeal. Perry also does a good job of engaging the interest of the reader by providing mysteries that are intriguing from the start. Also, though I'm not an expert on Victorian London, she seems to do a good job of re-creating that milieu.

On the other hand, Perry sometimes makes it plain who the murderer is in her stories by giving you one clearly dysfunctional character. Sometimes, too, her stories virtually turn into morality plays. She will take up some social evil of the period, make it part of her plot, and dwell on it. Finally, Perry has a tendency to end her stories very abruptly, leaving loose ends dangling and making you feeling like you've just stepped off a cliff.

This particular installment has all the usual strengths. Charlotte and Emily work to solve the case and save Thomas from a dire fate. The unsolved death of Robert York three years earlier gets Pitt started. The case is re-opened because York's widow is soon to marry a Foreign Office official. York was also with the Foreign Office at the time of his death and some secret papers disappeared at that time, so any possibility of scandal or espionage must be put to rest. During the course of the story, the reader gets a close look at the evils of nineteenth century English prisons, but not more so than fits the story. The mystery deepens as more deaths compicate matters. Perry keeps the reader guessing right up to the end in this one. While the end comes rather abruptly, there aren't too many loose ends in this one, so the reader isn't left hanging so much as in some of Perry's other stories.

As a mystery writer, Perry is a step below Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie. Her stories are enjoyable, especially if you've read enough of them to be familiar with the main characters, but the plots aren't usually as difficult to solve. This particular episode, however, is one of her best. A first-rate whodunit that will keep you guessing to the very end. Give it a try.

Anne Perry has done it again!
I have only read 2 books by Anne - "Farrier's Lane" and Bluegate Fields". Anne Perry has shown us a great mystery within a victorian era. My goal is to read all Anne Perry's books. This book is probably the best I have read out of the three. You won't be disappointed whe reading an Anne Perry novel.

BloodWind

This author ROCKS!
The Rysalian Empire had been near extinction. All their females were useless. When the men learned that the females from Terra could be impregnated by their race, they created Retrieval Units to abduct them.

Of all the warriors in the Empire, the ones known as Reapers were most feared. They were the elite, feared by men and women alike. Trained from birth to hunt and kill, then altered at the age of ten for other special talents, Reapers knew no fear and no love. Prime Reaper Captain Kamerone Cree was the best of them all. The Fleet called him "the Iceman".

The Resistance had noticed Cree's looks toward Dr. Bridget Dunne. With careful planning the Resistance had Cree taken to Behavioral Modification (Be-Mod 9) for "punishment". Unknown to the Empire, the doctors of Be-Mod 9 were really re-programming the Prime Reaper.

That was easier said than done, for Reapers were what Terra called Vampires. A bloodbeast lived within each Reaper. They were usually merciless warriors with a high pain tolerance, but whenever one entered into Transition the beast took over. The Resistance chose Bridget as his mate. Cree and Bridget would be used to change the Empire, whether they liked it or not!

***** A lot of torture takes place within this book. Anyone who enjoys the series of STAR WARS will find themselves glued to the pages of this novel! I do not care if you are male or female! It is a Dark Fantasy novel with a touch of Romance. I practically GROWLED at anyone who made me stop reading for even a few minutes. It is THAT good! Highly recommended to ALL Fantasy and Sci-Fi fans out there! *****

BEWARE of Captain Kamerone Cree - The Reaper!!!
BloodWind is book one of the WindDemon Trilogy written by Charlotte Boyett-Compo. In one word, this book was Incredible!!!!!

Captain Kamerone Cree is the highest ranking officer in the Ministry of Acquisitions. Since birth, he has been conditioned and trained to uphold the beliefs of the brutal Rysalian Empire. He, along with six others, are known as Reapers. All of them are extremely dangerous and possess the power to shapeshift into something very, very . . . lethal. None of them are more dangerous than Kamerone Cree.

His savage/ruthless reputation causes men and women to flee from his presence. No one dares to confront Kamerone, fearing his wrath. He displays no emotion at all and is known as the Iceman. Whatever he wants, he gets. No questions asked. Nothing is denied him until the Tribunal questions his loyalty and decides to make an example of him.

Why is his loyalty in question when it has never been before? He believes he knows who is responsible. The Resistance . . .

He is ordered to the Ministry of Behavioral Modification where he undergoes cruel and brutal treatments. It is there that Dr. Bridget Dunne enters his life.

Bridget is young, beautiful and a member of the Resistance. Along with her co-workers, she seeks to gain freedom from the Rysalian Empire and their only hope is to have Prime Reaper Kamerone Cree join their side. Bridget never imagines the impact he will have in her life. As he is forced to go through brutal reconditioning methods, her feelings for him begin to change.

Kamerone is the most deadliest of his kind. A shapeshifting assassin that believes any emotion will leave him vulnerable. Yet, he falls very, very HARD for Bridget. He purchases her, forcing her to live with him. It is there that their feelings spiral out of control.

Unknown to these two, there are darker forces at work. There are some who will stop at nothing to insure that their evil plans come to life.

Kamerone Cree was the ultimate, tortured hero. He was simply to die for . . . (sigh!) He possessed such unimaginable power, a deadly force to be reckoned with if ever crossed yet he never harms Bridget. One scene comes to mind (can't give anything away). Bridget pushes Kamerone's emotions, willingly making him angry. She expects him to hurt her yet he never does. He touches her with gentleness and that soft caress is so very intimidating because it is in such contrast to the deadly fury roaring within him.

Will Kamerone join the Resistance and what will he do once he discovers Bridget's part in all of it?

BloodWind was worth MORE than 5 stars!! It is incredibly written. I, for one, eagerly await the continuation of Bridget and Kamerone's story in DarkWind.

Run and grab yourself a copy of BloodWind. Prepare to fall in love with the deadliest of all shapeshifting assassins - Kamerone Cree.

Bravo, Charlee!

This was well worth the long wait
Due to their blundering warrior-scientific heritage, the Rysalians must steal females from other planets after accidentally eradicating their own women. Prime meat comes from places like Terra. However, these independent females refuse to simply turn into "loyal" subjects or sex fodder for the Reapers, another Rysalian warrior-scientific species experiment. The earthlings secretly head up the Resistance.

The lords sitting on the Bench of the Court of Military Justice declare Captain Kamerone Cree guilty, shocking all reapers since their word is usually law. Cree, the highest ranked and recognized most deadly of reapers, is sentenced to active reinforcement at the Ministry of Behavioral Modification. Kamerone knows the resistance is involved and thirsts for vengeance.

The resistance "controls" key Ministry of Behavioral Modification positions. They plan to insure that Kamerone falls in love with a Terran to win him to their side as the beginning of a more powerful opposition. They already have programmed Dr. Bridget Dunne to fall in love with Kamerone.

BLOOD WIND, the first novel in the "Wind Demon" trilogy, is an exciting science fiction tale that uses romance and vampire elements to enhance a strong plot. The story line never slows down as readers observe an advanced technological society using its science to control and change people. Cree has many vampire traits, but love is not supposed to be in his genetic make-up. Does he love Bridget, an intrepid heroine who turns his bark into more than his bite, because of science or his heart? Charlotte Boyett-Compro has written a fabulous novel that will leave readers thirsting for books two and three.

The Keeper of the Wind

Author: Charlotte Boyett-Compo
Average review score:

Not to my liking
The first 2 to 3 chapters were okay. Even the plot of the story was okay. The main character male became too much of a whinner, unrealistic in his views and most of the book between chapters 4 and the end was about a spoiled child having tantrums. The humor that was in the first couple chapters got lost among the tantrums. There seemed to be an underlying thought of magic, but it never got revealed or not enough was put into the story. The strength that was shown in the beginning of the woman and the man also became lost in the whinning. Had the author not devoted so much time to drawing out the character's misery, she may have had room to explore their strengths.

Well, it's to MY liking!
I can only say wow! There wasn't anything in this book I didn't like. The hero had some personal issues and was trying to work through them. I can't wait to continue with the story. Whine on, Conar McGregor. As a man, I understood your agony!

This is a really sexy novel
A friend recommended this novel to me and from the very first paragraph I was hooked. Not many stories open up with action right off the getgo, but this one did and it was unrelenting the entire time....not a drag in the entire book. The lovers are believable, likeable and like another of these reviews states: they don't insult your intelligence with the girl getting into trouble and having to get extracted by the hero every time you turned around! I liked this book; I loved the characters and can't wait to read more about them; and I laughed, cried, and snarled in all the places the author surely intended for me to laugh, cry and snarl! Hurry up with the next one in the series. Conar and Liza are the best hero and heroine to come along in a long time.

made me smile but did not really enlighten
this book is ok...that's about as far as i would go. there were some interesting quirks but i felt this was all too shallow.
it did provide some interesting cocktail banter and it does give value for money.
you'll finish it within half an hour and forget it under your bed.

Interesting for all Ages
This book is both a useful resource and an enjoyable way to past a rainy day. Ideal for all age groups - preteens will love learning about 'famous' mistakes - teens will get interested in thinking of ones left out of the book and adults we be amazed.
Overall fun book.

You can't make anything if you can't make mistakes
My mom always told me that you can't make anything if you can't make mistakes. This book proves the point aptly, highlighting several mistakes that turned into common and often-loved inventions (chocolate chip cookies, Coca-Cola, the Slinky). This is an enlightening book to share with kids, encouraging them to realize that taking risks, learning to improvise and experiment is often the best way to learn, even if you don't end up creating something new and wonderful.
